EUCROF has joined the Technology Providers Reference Group of i-HD, part of the programme eSource for Scaling Up Clinical Trials, to support collaboration across European clinical research.
What the Reference Group does
The group is made up of the technology providers on which eSource depends in practice:
- electronic health record (EHR) vendors
- electronic data capture (EDC) vendors
- developers of EHR-to-EDC middleware
- eSource infrastructure providers
- eSource service integrators
By working together, they will build, test and roll out the tools needed to take eSource to scale. With clinical research increasingly dependent on digital technology and the exchange of health data, close cooperation among these players is key to overcoming implementation hurdles and improving interoperability.
Why EUCROF is taking part
EUCROF’s participation builds on a memorandum of understanding between i-HD and EUCROF and on work within the xShare project. In December 2025 EUCROF was invited to the eSource conference organised by i-HD in Ghent, where it met leading EHR vendors, major pharmaceutical companies and research centres.
These meetings were instrumental in developing and demonstrating a standardised eSource approach that can be replicated at scale in Europe. Joining the eSource task force now could be a game changer for large-scale eSource implementation in Europe, with potentially huge benefits for competitiveness.

For EUCROF, taking part also advances a core aim: closer cooperation across Europe’s clinical research community.
